- Phosphorous was the 13th element to be discovered ,and the first element to be discovered since the ancient era.
- Phosphorus means "light bearer" in Greek and also means Lucifer in Latin (phosphorus was named after the Greek root because it glows when exposed to oxygen).
- Henning Brand is credited with discovering the element in 1669.
- Brand discovered the element while experimenting with urine.
- Brand was trying to make a philosophers stone ,but got phosphorus instead.
- Brand had left urine in a jar to evaporate ,and got phosphorus when it evaporated. The reason for this is that urine has phosphorus in it.
